Is your company’s culture shifting and evolving? If the answer is yes, and you’re in the process of hiring new people, here are the questions Fast Company recommends asking during interviews.

  • Tell me about a time you encountered a difficult problem you didn’t know how to solve.
  • Give me an example of a time when you had to perform tasks outside of your job description, or master a new system, process or technology? How did you approach it?
  • Give me an example that demonstrates how you deal with uncertainty and ambiguity?

Be consistent and ask each candidate the same questions, in the same order, and have a systematic way of scoring their responses.

These questions will help you get at each candidate’s growth mindset. Is their skill set fixed or flexible? Are they agile and open to change? Does uncertainty and ambiguity motivate or debilitate them? Do they push through stress, or get easily overwhelmed?
